The AIG, who represented the police hierarchy at the forum, said the late Olubadan assisted the state command in maintaining peace in the metropolis until his demise on January 19.
Kalifite Adeyemi, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, on Tuesday urged the Olubadan-designate, High Chief Saliu Adetunji, to strengthen the existing relations between Ibadan residents and the police.
Adeyemi, who paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, in his palace, said this would ensure that the existing peace in the state was sustained.
The AIG, who represented the police hierarchy at the forum, said the late Olubadan assisted the state command in maintaining peace in the metropolis until his demise on January 19.
She said: “”The Inspector General of Police asked me on his behalf to come and pay a condolence visit to the family of our late Olubadan.
“I learnt the police command in this state enjoyed a robust relationship with the late monarch.
“I urge the incoming Olubadan to cooperate with the police.
“The police are his friends.
“Cordial relationship with the police is capable of strengthening the existing peace in the state.”
Responding on behalf of the Odulana family, Prof. Femi Lana thanked the police boss over the visit.
Lana said: “Ibadan, being peaceful, would not have been possible without the police and essentially the firm cooperation between the command and the monarch as well as the government.”
Also speaking at the forum, the wife of the state Governor, Florence Ajimobi, described the late monarch as an icon worthy to be celebrated.
Ajimobi said: “He was a man who was contented with everything in life.
“He was a lover of people and a disciplined man.
“We would miss him, but we know he is resting in Christ.
“We hope that the peace being enjoyed now will continue to be sustained.”
