WITH a local version of global hit entertainment show, Lip Sync Battle in the pipeline, Viacom-owned youth entertainment channel MTV Base will be increasing its offerings on DStv channel 130.
Tagged Lip Sync Battle Africa, international superstar rapper, LL Cool J made this big announcement on MTV's social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Expected to go live in April, the weekly show which will be recorded in Johannesburg will debut with 13 half hour episodes in the first season, featuring vocal showdowns between top celebrities and entertainment figures, complete with dancers, wigs, costumes, props and tons of swag.
Each battle will consist of two celebrities "lip syncing" or miming popular music tracks of their choice. Each contestant must lip sync to two songs – one of which will be by an African artist. The winner will be chosen by the live studio audience.
Although the names of local hosts are yet to be announced, Lip Sync Battle Africa will be anchored by two celebrities, following in the footsteps of the U.S. version starring LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen.
Lip Sync Battle is officially one of the most infectious TV programmes ever to come out of the Viacom stable with nine signed local production deals in the UK, China, Chile, Canada, Indonesia, Philippines, Norway, Poland and Vietnam.
The show will be on MTV every Thursday from 14th April at 7:50PM and on MTV Base at 10:30PM every Saturday from 16th April.
