Michael Abbink has revealed the results of the Ballon d’Or five days before the awards gala is due to take place in Zurich after taking a screenshot of the leaked announcement on FIFA’s website.
The
Dutch journalist, who writes for NU Sport, is reliable and the results in
question always seemed likely.
Lionel
Messi is set to pick up his fifth Ballon d’Or, extending his own record after
playing an integral role in Barcelona’s amazing year that saw them pick up five
trophies including the Champions League.
Cristiano
Ronaldo is the current holder of the award having won back-to-back Ballon
d’Or’s for the years 2013 and 2014. He was nominated after hitting 57 goals in
the calendar year but failing to pick up any silverware.
There’s
no indication as to whether Ronaldo in second or whether it was Neymar who
picked up silver, the Brazilian forward came of age in the company of world
class forwards.
In the
women’s category, Celia Sasic is a surprising winner. The German attacker, who
retired in July, pips Carli Lloyd to the prize despite her amazing hat-trick in
the World Cup final. See the leaked results below.
