The CIES Football Observatory have attempted to rank, in monetary value, the top 100 most valuable footballers in the biggest leagues in the world.
Only
players from the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 were
ranked.
Whilst
there is obviously a lot of conjecture about such lists, the CIES Football
Observatory “specialise in the demographic study of the footballers’ labour
market, performance analysis at team and player levels,” according to their
website.
In order
to calculate the transfer value of any footballer, a multitude of factors have
been taken into account by the football boffins.
Those
factors include the age of the footballer, his current contract status, what
position the player plays in, plus the results and achievements of the
footballer’s respective teams.
A
graphic outlining all the factors influencing a player’s transfer value is
below.
According
to the data, Leo Messi is the most expensive footballer on the planet as he
currently commands a transfer fee over 250 million euros.
FC
Barcelona also have the second most expensive player – albeit almost 100
million euros cheaper than Messi – Neymar.
Perhaps
surprisingly considering his performances this season, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is
third in the list ahead of Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
In
another interesting turn up for the books, Tottenham striker Harry Kane is
valued at over 91 million euros, which is more than other Premier League stars
including ninth-placed Sergio Aguero (82.1 million euros) and tenth-placed
Alexis Sanchez (81.9 million euros).
Other
noticeable claims are that Mesut Ozil (27th) is worth 51 million euros, Emre
Can (35) is valued at 45.8 million euros, while Tottenham’s Dele Alli and Eric
Dier are worth 34 million euros each.
Wayne
Rooney didn’t make the list.
